MY STORY

My background

My name is Kelly. I am a Registered Nurse and Wellness Coach. I am a full time working mom, with 3 kiddos. I have a 9 year old daughter that developed hair loss when she was 6 years old. She started with patches of hair loss and then lost all of her hair. I  understand the fear and uncertainty of this disease and wish that I had someone in my corner that had the experience to understand and help my daughter and myself cope and understand the process of this disease. I want to share my daughter and I's experience and help others who are experiencing this disease to understand the process and come up with coping skills to get through such an uncertain time in their lives.

Active listening is important to help patients come up with solutions to help them feel comfortable with talking about their concerns and to come up with a plan to help navigate such an uncertain time. Talking about the barriers and setting realistic goals that allow people to develop positive coping skills and management will help people regain their new normal to life and ability to enjoy living.  I want to pass this knowledge and spirit on to others in order to help other people to lead happier, knowledgeable and more fulfilling lives.

I have experience working with Families with Children that have recently have a diagnosis or symptoms of ALOPECIA that are experiencing:

*****Loss of Patches of hair on the scalp, eye brows, or eye lashes.

*****Complete hair loss all over the body

*****Coping with Alopecia for the child and support for families

*****Children begin to experience social isolation, anxiety and depression in the            beginning of this process.

*****Parents get the feeling of helplessness when their child starts to go through something that is not easily understood and not explained well.

ALOPECIA is a common autoimmune skin disease that affects small parts of the body to the entire body with hair loss. According to National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) 6.8 million are affected by some form of Alopecia. This can be a struggle for parents of children that are being affected by the hair loss as well as the child. It can affect any age range of children and can cause some difficulty with self esteem and coping with this disease can be difficult.

I want you to feel valued and know that I do understand and we will work through these feelings together. This is a space that is confidential! Together we will come up with an action plan filled with caring, motivation and encouraging goals that are relevant to your needs.
